Roz Reisner, an HCL colleague from the early 1970’s who worked as a reference librarian at Southdale, has just written a wonderful reader’s guide to memoirs and autobiographies. Roz also has a terrific web site “A Reader’s Place”, with all sorts of information, reading suggestions & a great comment about her time here.

I worked at HCL from 1972-1973 (as a clerk in County Reference in the downtown MPL building and then at the newly opened Southdale branch) and again from 1974-1975 (as a clerk at the Southdale branch), while I was in the now-defunct library school at the University of Minnesota. Those were the salad days of Robert Rohlf, Lora [Laura?] Landers, Sandy Berman, and a host of others. I have fond memories of working the circulation desk at Southdale under the able supervision of Monzetta (Zet) Cole and alongside a group of very eager and motivated coworkers, young and old. And I've kept in touch with a number of the librarians whom I knew back then (Roz Reisner in particular).

At yesterday's meeting Lois Thompson referred to an MPR morning news "Today's Question" that asked if access to the internet was a basic human right. I looked at the responses to that question and they are summarized as follows: while many people talked about the importance of internet access, only 3 of the 12 people who responded were willing to give it the status of 'basic human right.' I enjoyed seeing everyone at yesterday's meeting and hearing about how things are going at HCL. It's a great organization, even without all of us withdrawn types! Lee
